Studies on Schizophrenia-related cognitive fuctions using Mouse Model

 

PLC1 is expressed mainly in forebrain areas: cerebral cortex, hippocampus, amygdala, lateral septum and olfactory bulb, and thus is involved in diverse critical functions.  The potential association of PLC1 with schizophrenia has been proposed based on genetic linkage study and postmortem anatomical studies on brains of schizophrenia patients.  Besides, PLC1-/- mice have been reported to display schizophrenia-like behaviors such as locomotor hyperactivity (open field test), sensorimotor gating deficit (prepulse inhibition: PPI), lack of nesting and barbering behaviors, social withdrawal, and deficit in working memory (DNMTS T-maze).

     We are currently examining the effects of widely-used antipsychotics such as olanzapine, aripiprazole, and also newly-developed drugs like LY404039, on these behaviors.   We are also screening behaviors affected by regional knockdown of PLC1 gene and dveloping an animal model system for hallucination using mediated learning paradigm.
